I am a Clinical Creative Director supporting graphic designers, illustrators, animators and video editors in the creation of medical educational materials. I work closely with physicians to create imagery (films, photography, illustration and animations etc.) to effectively describe, educate and explain medical techniques, procedures and concepts. This work is regularly presented internationally. Furthermore, I provided the film editing for three interactive educational medical eBooks.

I am also a photographer and filmmaker.

After completing my art education, I chose to specialise in photography and was fortunate to be mentored by Terry Cryer, an award-winning photographer and photographic printer. Under his guidance, I learned to visualise the final image before even pressing the camera shutter, as if conducting a thought experiment. This approach was intriguing because, while photography is fundamentally about capturing a single moment in time, creating a truly evocative image requires anticipating the post-processing and final image creation stages.

I still uphold the practice of visualising the final image as an essential part of my creative approach. Anticipating and envisioning the end result allows me to capture the true essence of the subject and create images that are not only visually captivating but also convey the intended message effectively. It’s a valuable skill that I continue to carry forward in my work as a photographer, filmmaker, and clinical-creative director, ensuring that my creativity is always guided by a clear vision of the final outcome.

When collaborating with artists, as with physicians , I place a high priority on gaining a profound understanding of the meaning, rationale, and message behind their work. This allows me the opportunity to go beyond a mere photographic record and instead convey, enhance, and potentially extend the original narrative of the piece. Similar to my approach in educational work, my intention is to create imagery that goes beyond aesthetics and serves as a tool for education, conveying a message or explanation, and ultimately providing the viewer with a deeper understanding.

By delving into the essence of the art and working closely with the artists, I strive to create images that evoke emotions, provoke thoughts, and enrich the visual storytelling. Through collaboration and a deep appreciation for the artistic process, I seek to create imagery that resonates with the audience, triggers meaningful conversations, and adds value to the art and its intended message.

In 2019, I held my first exhibition titled ‘The Golden Aerialist’ in collaboration with UK artist and sculptor Hannah Honeywill MA. The centerpiece of the exhibition was a film that documented the intricate process of creating the sculpture of the same name. Additionally, the exhibition included indoor and outdoor photographic displays showcasing five other sculptures previously created by Hannah, including the finished Aerialist sculpture.

Each of the five sculptures was photographed with a focus on capturing the essence of their meaning as intended by Hannah, ensuring that the photographs authentically reflected the narrative and intention of each artwork.

The exhibition was commissioned by the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival in partnership with The National Trust. It was a noteworthy event for me as a photographer and filmmaker, as it provided an opportunity to showcase the power of collaboration in the world of art.

I now undertake commissions from artists and galleries requiring fine art imagery, including photographs for publication and more in-depth images and films that convey the narrative and essence of artwork. Contact me for more information.
